A church, the Westboro Baptist Church has a reputation for hate speech. They speak out against Jews, Christians, Muslims, the LGBT community. Their members have even picketed funerals of U.S. soldiers. In 2013, Aaron Jackson bought a house right across the street from the Church headquarters in Topeka, KS.
Jackson, the co-founder of Planting Peace, wanted to do something to help support the kids who commit suicide each year because of bullying over LGBT issues. He transformed the ordinary house into a symbol that stands for equality. Jackson’s house stands out in the neighborhood because it is painted every color of the rainbow! The contractor who took the job was a military veteran who dislikes Westboro for messing with this country’s veterans.
Thousands of people have come to see the “Equality House.” Jackson says the house has painted those colors to show that love can trump hate. Share away, people.
